Willard Carroll Smith, II, or simply Will Smith, is an actor who is known and loved by millions of people around the earth. And maybe not only Earth, if you know what I mean (if no, just remember Men in Black). The life of this man is similar to the plot of the book. Just read these facts about him and you’ll understand what we mean.
#1: When he was only 12 years old, he began rapping at home and in school. At the age of 16, Smith met Jeff Townes, and the duo launched a highly successful rap career as DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince. The pair’s first single, Girls Ain’t Nothing But Trouble, was a hit in 1986. Their 1987 debut album, Rock the House, hit the Billboard Top 200 and made Smith a millionaire before the age of 18.
#2: Will Smith played his first small roles in the drama Where The Day Takes You (1992) and the comedy Made In America (1993). Since then Smith tried to explore his acting ability playing in some movies until the movie critics recognized his performance through a 1993 critically acclaimed film based on the John Guare play Six Degrees of Separation.
#3: Will Smith is against some traditional education because he believes that there are many ways to learn a skill. He once stated: “I know how to learn anything I want to learn. I absolutely know that I could learn how to fly the space shuttle because someone else knows how to fly it, and they put it in a book. Give me the book, and I do not need somebody to stand up in front of the class.”
#4: Will Smith turned down the chance to play the lead role for the popular 1999 sci-fi movie The Matrix because he just could not understand the concept during the pitch. He was quoted saying, “I totally would have messed up The Matrix.”
#5: Smith was raised Baptist and went to a Catholic school. He’s known for respecting his friends and colleagues in the industry despite their differences in faith while staying strong in his own. According to Smith: “You don’t have to be Jewish to be a friend of Steven Spielberg. You don’t have to be a Muslim to be a friend of Muhammad Ali. And you don’t have to be a Scientologist to be a friend of Tom Cruise…I am a Christian. I am a student of all religions. And I respect all people and all paths.”
